New York City enforces requirements for Exit Signs above and beyond national code requirements. Enforcement of building and fire codes throughout New York are handled by the Division of Code Enforcement and Administration under the New York Department of State.
New York City Exit Sign Requirements
New York City requires the word "EXIT" to be Red in color, 8 inches tall and have a 1 inch line stroke (thickness). NYC Exit Signs have higher visibility since standard Exit Signs are only required to have a 6 inch letter height and smaller stroke. In addition, these units must be constructed of metal or other durable materials. Light Fixture Industries, Inc.'s selection of NYC Approved Emergency Lighting meet or exceed NYC codes.
Battery for Exit Signs and Emergency Lights. We strongly recommend keeping the existing battery lead for re-attachment. Please be advised the actual product may not include the pictured connector.
